The small forests found in Kineng'ene, Kitumbikwela, Mitwero, and Tulieni villages surrounding Lindi Municipal centre, are important as a source of firewood, charcoal, and timber for construction purposes. The forests are also important for soil conservation. A total of 74,060 tree seedlings have been planted in order to maintain these forests since 2000/2001 to 2010/2011. The types of forests found are natural and artificial forests. Example is the mangrove forests found at Sido area along the ocean. Natural forests are found along the coasts which cover an area of about 2,723Ha of Mangrove forest. Natural forests 359Ha and Plantation forests in 23 hectares. Forest products include Charcoal, timber and poles. The Municipal Council is also encouraging people in the campaign of tree planting.
